Infrastructure and service issues impact Italian commuters
Commuters in various parts of Italy are facing significant disruptions due to railway service failures and infrastructure challenges.
On the Pavia–Alessandria line, frequent delays, cancellations, and technical faults have caused growing discontent among workers and students. The consumer rights organization Codacons Lombardia has called on Rete Ferroviaria Italiana and Trenord to provide explanations regarding these recurring issues and to outline maintenance plans to ensure service reliability.
In Calabria, the LocRinasce civic movement is protesting the loss of mobility rights for approximately 140,000 residents. The region is facing the suspension of the experimental summer Intercity train service to Rome and upcoming closures of the Limina Tunnel on the Jonio-Tirreno route for new construction works. Local advocates are demanding that the Calabria Region and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport implement a structural mobility plan rather than temporary solutions.
