Infrastructure and sewage issues reported in Palermo and Santo Spirito
In Palermo, construction has begun on a new sewage branch (Segno n. 60) to address sanitary issues caused by a malfunctioning lifting plant. The project involves installing a 120-meter PVC pipe with a 315-millimeter diameter to direct wastewater into the municipal sewage network at via Porta di Mare. The intervention, supported by AMAP and municipal public works offices, includes the installation of ten inspection manholes to ensure future maintenance.
In Santo Spirito, following the renovation of the lungomare Cristoforo Colombo, local associations and commercial representatives are raising concerns regarding drainage. Despite the recent completion of the project, heavy rainfall has caused sewage and rainwater to flood the waterfront and local commercial spaces in the Piazza Roma covered market. Critics suggest the flooding may be due to incorrect paving slopes or insufficient drainage catchments, leading to calls for civil legal action to address the technical failures.
