Infrastructure and sustainability initiatives reported in Siracusa and Modica
In Siracusa, Aretusacque has announced a €155,000 investment to overhaul the water network in via Ispica and surrounding areas. The project, scheduled to begin by December 1, aims to replace obsolete infrastructure with high-density polyethylene piping to resolve long-standing service disruptions. The works will involve approximately 325 meters of new main lines and 200 meters of secondary connections, affecting 82 users and an estimated 450 residents.
In Modica, parents at the Carlo Amore Comprehensive Institute are calling for improvements to the school catering service. While welcoming a municipal initiative to reduce single-use plastic through water dispensers and reusable bottles, the parents' committee is urging the local administration to expedite a new tender for school meals. They are advocating for a transition to on-site plating to eliminate plastic containers used for hot food and to reduce food waste, noting that similar models are already functioning in Ragusa and Vittoria.
