Infrastructure concerns in Ilamatlán and lake sanitation in Xalapa

Residents of the upper region of Ilamatlán, Veracruz, have warned of potential isolation during the upcoming rainy season due to a lack of critical infrastructure. Approximately 4,930 inhabitants across several communities, including Tenexco, Conquextla, Tecapa, Apachitla, Chochotla, San Mateo, and San Pablo, face mobility risks. Residents report that while bridge projects were approved for the lower part of the municipality, priority bridges for the upper zone, specifically the Tenexco and Chochotla bridges, remain pending federal approval.

In Xalapa, sanitation efforts for the Las Ánimas lakes are progressing, with the first body of water seeing over 80 percent clearance of invasive vegetation. Since July 23, at least 20 tons of aquatic biomass and waste have been removed. The municipal government, in coordination with state and federal authorities and the Universidad Veracruzana, plans to transfer the collected waste to a composting center for use as organic fertilizer and will soon begin interventions on the second lake.
