Infrastructure concerns raised in Borgo Valbelluna and Monteviasco
In Borgo Valbelluna, the cultural association ‘Gli Amici di Cesana ODV’ has issued an urgent warning regarding the Piave river. The group reports that excessive gravel and dense vegetation have accumulated upstream of the Cesana-Busche dam, creating a ‘catastrophic’ risk for residents and buildings on both banks.
Drawing parallels to the 1966 floods, the association expressed concern that if a high-flow event occurred, the debris and vegetation could obstruct the bridge-dam, forcing water levels to rise dangerously upstream. They are calling for immediate safety interventions and meetings with regional and provincial authorities.
Separately, in Monteviasco, the association ‘Monteviasco Borgo e Natura APS’ is raising concerns over the prolonged closure of the local cable car. Originally scheduled for a five-year maintenance review in September, the reopening has been delayed until at least October 30 due to additional necessary repairs.
As the cable car is the only transport link to the valley, residents must climb 1,442 steps to reach the village. The association noted that the closure is causing significant logistical and health-related difficulties for residents, businesses, and those managing daily supplies.
