Infrastructure concerns rise in Abano Terme and Portoferraio

In Abano Terme, a recent hailstorm has severely damaged the tensile structure covering the Alberti Institute gymnasium. Local authorities are considering several repair options, including replacing the current cover with a similar material, installing a double-walled fabric, or constructing an entirely new permanent roof. A final decision is expected in the coming weeks following the appointment of a provincial councilor for school buildings. The Province and the Municipality of Abano Terme are coordinating to manage the impact on students and local associations that use the facility outside of school hours.

In Portoferraio, members of the Bene Comune municipal group have filed an inquiry regarding the structural decay of Palazzo Coppedè. The building is experiencing roof failures and water infiltration, which officials warn is compromising its static safety. The situation stems from a stalled privatization process initiated in 2023; despite a provisional award to a firm, the contract was never finalized. Local councilors have criticized the administration for a lack of transparency and updates regarding the building's future and its deteriorating condition.
