Infrastructure concerns rise in Adıyaman and Istanbul following heavy rainfall
In Adıyaman, the local municipality has launched a rainwater drainage project covering four neighborhoods, including the area around the Clock Tower and Hastane Street. The initiative aims to mitigate flooding and water accumulation by installing high-capacity pipes to connect drainage lines. This project is part of a larger municipal effort to install 441 kilometers of sewage and rainwater infrastructure across 23 neighborhoods to strengthen the city's resilience following recent earthquakes.
In Istanbul, residents of the Ayazağa neighborhood are reporting recurring flooding issues. Local community leader Mustafa Karaman claims that despite multiple official requests to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) and İSKİ since 2019, necessary improvements to the stream bed and channel cleaning have not been implemented. Karaman noted that while new commercial buildings and plazas have been constructed in the area, the 40-to-50-year-old infrastructure has not been upgraded to match the increased urban density.
