Infrastructure damage causes transit issues in Santo Domingo and Santo Domingo Este

Infrastructure issues are causing significant transit difficulties in Santo Domingo Este and Santo Domingo.

In Santo Domingo Este, the deterioration of Avenida Hípica near Calle 10 has created hazards for drivers and pedestrians. The road is characterized by potholes, cracks, and uneven surfaces. Recent rainfall has exacerbated the situation, as accumulated water hides these defects, forcing motorists to change trajectories and pedestrians to navigate mud and puddles.

In Santo Domingo, authorities have closed a section of Avenida Esmeraldas following a sinkhole caused by a collapsed sewage system. The collapse occurred at the intersection of the Niño de Belén sector and Pasaje La Paz. Emergency teams from EPMAPA-SD, Public Works, and the Fire Department are working to clear debris and assess risks to nearby homes. Traffic is being diverted to Río Zamora and Río Yasuní streets to mitigate congestion.
