Infrastructure damage in Ghana as heavy rains destroy bridges
Heavy rainfall has caused the collapse of critical bridge infrastructure in Ghana, disrupting movement and economic activity across several regions.
In Builsa South, the Kanjarga-Jiningsa footbridge collapsed following a heavy downpour. Dr. Clement Apaak, the Member of Parliament for Builsa South, has initiated consultations with the District Chief Executive and engineers to assess the damage and propose a permanent solution. The MP’s office has pledged to provide the necessary resources to reconstruct the bridge and restore safety to the affected communities.
Separately, a bridge on the Bawku-Garu-Tempane-Pusiga road has been washed away, stranding travelers and complicating the transport of farm produce and essential goods. Residents and motorists have reported safety risks while attempting to navigate the damaged section and are calling on the government and the Ghana Highway Authority to provide urgent intervention and secure safe passage.
