Infrastructure decay and land disputes reported in Indonesia

Several regional issues in Indonesia have drawn attention, ranging from deteriorating school infrastructure to land ownership disputes.

In Pandeglang, Banten, SDN Bangkuyung 2 has suffered severe building damage for the last decade. The school principal, Rohayati, reported that the student population has dwindled to 40 children as parents fear for their safety. Six classrooms and a library are heavily damaged, with the library having collapsed a year ago. Teachers are forced to combine different grade levels into single rooms, and students often have to sit or lie on the floor. Leaking roofs frequently interrupt lessons during rain.

In Purwakarta, West Java, SDN 1 Parung Banteng is facing similar structural concerns. Parents have noted peeling pillars, exposed steel frames, and damaged retaining walls. While some floor holes have been repaired, the toilets and other structural elements remain in poor condition.

Additionally, a land dispute has emerged at Gunung Sembung in Purwakarta involving allegations of land mafia activity. Residents have raised questions regarding the status of land and the whereabouts of Rp13.9 billion in compensation funds related to the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (KCIC) project. Local officials noted discrepancies in land sale documents dating back to 2014, involving signatures that appeared inconsistent with identity cards.
