Infrastructure developments proposed in Central Macedonia and Epirus
Regional representatives in Greece are advocating for significant transport infrastructure upgrades in Central Macedonia and Epirus. In Central Macedonia, Regional Councilor Stamatis Papoulidis has formally requested updates regarding the Thessaloniki – Kilkis – Doxani – Promachonas road axis. The project aims to create a modern, safe road network with two lanes in each direction and a central divider to improve safety, reduce travel times, and support the Kilkis Industrial Area and cross-border economic activity.
In Epirus, the Regional Union of Municipalities of Epirus is pushing for the completion of studies and the securing of European funding for a railway connection between Kalambaka and Ioannina. The long-term goal of this expansion is to link the region to the Port of Igoumenitsa. Local authorities believe the project will enhance connectivity between Thessaly and Epirus, benefiting transport, tourism, and regional economic development.
