Moldova completes 9.25 million euro rehabilitation of R8.1 road

The R8.1 national road connecting Arionești and Otaci in northern Moldova has been fully rehabilitated. The project covers nearly 10 kilometers and was completed following several years of development.

The reconstruction cost approximately 9.25 million euros, with funding provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The upgraded route features two traffic lanes with a seven-meter roadway width, plus an additional lane specifically designed for heavy freight transport to optimize geometric parameters and facilitate large vehicle movement.

Technical improvements include a 150 mm cold recycled asphalt base, a 60 mm binder layer, and a 40 mm wear layer. The project also involved the rehabilitation of four culverts, the construction of a drainage system, and the installation of over 300 road signs, 527 signal poles, and nearly 3 kilometers of protective barriers. Additionally, three passenger waiting stations were established to improve connectivity and safety for local commuters.
