Argentina National Road Safety Agency sanctions 1,800 drivers

The National Road Safety Agency (ANSV) has conducted intensive enforcement operations across major highways in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA), including the Panamericana, Acceso Oeste, and the Buenos Aires-La Plata highway. These operations resulted in 1,849 sanctions against drivers for illegally using highway shoulders (banquinas) to bypass traffic congestion.

In addition to shoulder violations, authorities identified 340 drivers operating without license plates or with adulterated plates, and 187 drivers sanctioned for using mobile phones while driving. During one incident on the Panamericana highway, an inspector rejected an attempted bribe from a driver who offered money to avoid a fine.

The ANSV emphasized that highway shoulders are reserved exclusively for emergency situations, and using them to advance during traffic jams violates Article 48 of the National Transit Law.
