Infrastructure failures cause flooding and sewage leaks in Spain
Residents and community leaders in the Valencia region are reporting significant infrastructure issues following heavy rainfall. In Los Nietos, residents face recurring flooding and thick mud accumulation that prevents movement in and out of homes. Nani Vergara, president of the local neighborhood association, noted that the issue has persisted since 2016, with water often flowing into the town from the El Llano del Beal area even before local rain begins.
In Alzira, the Federation of Neighborhood Associations has denounced the contamination of the Barxeta ravine. Voro Pérez, the federation's president, reported that intense rainfall caused the city's sewage pipes to collapse and overflow, mixing fecal matter with rainwater. This mixture flows into the Barxeta ravine and subsequently into the Júcar river. Pérez criticized local authorities for failing to separate rainwater and sewage networks during recent street renovations, a measure implemented in other nearby towns using European funds.
