Infrastructure failures disrupt power and transport in Goma and Ituri

Infrastructure issues are causing significant disruptions in several regions. In Goma, Virunga Energies reported a power outage at the Rwanguba power station starting Sunday, August 16, 2026. The technical failure has affected electricity supply for various subscribers, and while technical teams are working on repairs, a full restoration of service has not yet been achieved. The company warned of potential load shedding and further interruptions during the repair process.

In the Ituri region, the Bunia-Kasenyi road has been blocked since Saturday, August 15, 2026, following a vehicle rollover near Mandje village. The accident, attributed to severe road degradation including potholes and mud, has left hundreds of passengers, motorcyclists, and truck drivers stranded. The blockage is hindering commercial trade between Bunia and Kasenyi, specifically impacting the transport of fish and agricultural goods from Lake Albert, leading to concerns over economic losses for local merchants.
