Infrastructure improvements announced for rural roads in Colombia and Chile
In Colombia, the municipality of Sonsón has received 129 sections of piping to improve rural road infrastructure. This initiative, a collaboration between Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM) and the Sonsón Mayor's Office, repurposes materials from the PCH Sonsón 1 hydroelectric plant. The pipes will be used for water management in the rural districts of Los Medios, Las Cruces, and Alto de Sabanas to help preserve tertiary roads and facilitate the transport of agricultural products.
In Chile, the Ministry of Public Works has received authorization from the National Monuments Council to perform emergency repairs on the historic Ñipas Bridge. The bridge, which connects the municipalities of Ránquil and Portezuelo over the Itata River, has suffered from a deteriorated roadway. The upcoming work will involve surface patching with cold asphalt mix to improve transit conditions while a more comprehensive restoration project is developed.
