Infrastructure improvements launched for pedestrians and cyclists in Germany

New pedestrian and cycling infrastructure projects have been launched in Germany to improve regional and urban mobility.

In the Pfaffenhofen district, a new 1,050-meter path between Gambach and Ottersried has officially opened along the PAF 21 district road. The project, costing approximately 690,000 euros, was 75 percent funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport’s ‘Stadt und Land’ program. The path, which is 2.5 meters wide, aims to close a gap in the local cycling network and enhance safety for commuters.

In Dresden, construction has begun on a new pedestrian crossing on Rehefelder Straße in the Pieschen district. The project includes sidewalk extensions, improved tactile paving for the visually impaired, and additional lighting to enhance safety for students at nearby schools. The works, which started in early September 2026, are expected to continue until late November, during which time the road will operate as a one-way street.
