Colombia infrastructure: Regional road investments and maintenance updates

Colombia is seeing various regional infrastructure developments. In Boyacá, Invías Director Juan Camilo Ostos Romero announced an investment of approximately 1.5 trillion pesos for road projects, including the Briceño-Tunja-Sogamoso (BTS) corridor. Ostos noted that while 115 kilometers of the BTS were returned to the state, the associated toll revenues were not, necessitating national resources for maintenance.

In Eastern Antioquia, local mayors and business leaders are requesting the execution of eight strategic road works. They aim to utilize roughly 160 billion pesos from toll collection surpluses to address congestion and safety issues, such as the Clínica Somer interchange and the El Cordobés pedestrian bridge.

In Medellín, the municipal government has launched a preventive maintenance plan for 15 underpass roads to mitigate flooding risks during the rainy season. The plan involves cleaning drainage systems and removing debris in areas like Villanueva and Alpujarra.

Separately, RTVC has reported a scandal involving a mobile broadcast unit purchased for 11.924 billion pesos. The unit is reportedly non-functional due to the absence of a power plant and the inclusion of unsuitable equipment, such as a mapping drone instead of a television model.
