Infrastructure neglect and flooding reported in Spain and Mexico

Residents in different regions are reporting long-standing infrastructure failures regarding road maintenance and drainage.

In the El Molino neighborhood of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, community leaders have denounced decades of neglect. The neighborhood association president, Ana Concepción, stated that many streets have not been resurfaced in over forty years. Beyond poor road conditions, residents face significant issues with rainwater runoff; in some areas, water flows into homes during heavy rain, prompting neighbors to use sandbags to prevent flooding.

Similarly, in the Villa Hermosa and Villa Alegre developments, residents have faced chronic flooding for over 15 years. Recent rainfall caused water to inundate access roads, damage vehicles, and enter homes. Residents report that even brief periods of rain can flood the only access routes, with standing water often taking several days to recede, leaving the community effectively cut off.
