Infrastructure projects advance in São Caetano do Sul and Porto Alegre

Infrastructure projects are advancing in two Brazilian cities to improve public transport and urban mobility.

In São Caetano do Sul, the Drenar Program has moved into a critical phase of constructing a new level crossing. Work has begun on a subterranean connection between the São Caetano Terminal and Rua 24 Horas, which will link the terminal's basement to the Bairro Fundação neighborhood. The project includes the installation of an elevator to ensure accessibility for elderly passengers and those with reduced mobility. Authorities are implementing safety measures and pedestrian paths to minimize disruption to local commerce and transit.

In Porto Alegre, Trensurb has completed renovations at the Mercado Station. The project included the full rehabilitation of an escalator that was submerged during the May 2024 floods. Improvements at the station, located near the Mercado Público, involve new sealing glass, updated wiring, new lighting, and automatic gates. This work is part of a broader program to restore metro stations affected by recent flooding to full operational capacity.
