Infrastructure projects advance with bridge construction in Germany and Austria

Infrastructure projects involving bridge construction are progressing in Koblenz, Germany, and Graz, Austria.

In Koblenz, work continues on the new Pfaffendorfer Bridge. A temporary bridge has been established on the Pfaffendorfer side to connect the new structure to the road network. Construction includes a roadway slab supported by six steel pillars to avoid putting weight on historical casemates. A major milestone is planned for September: the lifting of approximately 1,000-ton steel components. However, this operation depends on the Rhine River's water levels, as the components must be transported via pontoon. Low water levels have previously caused delays for the project.

In Graz, Austria, ÖBB has successfully installed a new railway bridge in Herrgottwiesgasse as part of a 5 million euro modernization project between the Graz Main Station and Ostbahnhof. The new steel structure, composed of nine 27-ton components assembled using a longitudinal shifting method, is scheduled to go into operation on August 24. The project also includes a new bicycle bridge over the Mühlgang. Final works for the entire route are expected to continue until August 2026.
