Infrastructure projects and failures reported in Colombia and Mexico

In Colombia, Cormagdalena director Álvaro Redondo has presented a 970 billion peso project to structurally channel the Magdalena River. The initiative, funded by the national government, focuses on the access channel to the port of Barranquilla with an estimated 404 billion peso investment for works to be completed by 2030. The project includes stabilizing the Bocas de Ceniza banks and constructing a directional dike to reduce dredging needs by 40%, potentially doubling or tripling cargo movement.

In Mexico, various regions are facing infrastructure challenges. In the Córdoba-Fortín area, a lack of coordination between municipal authorities and Caminos y Puentes Federales (Capufe) has caused severe traffic congestion due to highway maintenance overlapping with local market days.

In Omealca, the Tenejapam vehicular bridge remains in ruins two years after its collapse, which resulted in one death. The absence of a reconstruction plan has forced residents to take much longer, more expensive routes.
