Infrastructure projects and local opposition emerge in Spain

In Spain, two distinct local infrastructure and environmental developments are underway. In Cartagena, the Mancomunidad de los Canales del Taibilla is advancing the Perín aqueduct renewal project. This phase involves the expropriation of four properties to facilitate works declared of public utility and urgent execution. The contract was awarded to ACSA Obras e Infraestructuras SAU for 776,860.39 euros, with a 12-month execution period. The project includes constructing a new inverted siphon to ensure water supply security, while the original aqueduct will be preserved and renovated as a historical landmark.

In Segovia, a neighborhood platform in Valverde del Majano has collected approximately 8,000 signatures opposing the installation of a biomethane and compost plant near the municipality. The signatures, gathered both physically and via Change.org, will be delivered to the Junta de Castilla y León. The opposition, which includes residents from neighboring towns such as Martín Miguel and Abades, cites concerns regarding the potential territorial, environmental, and social impacts of the project.
