Infrastructure projects and roadworks announced in Schwerin and Aachen
Various infrastructure and road construction projects are commencing in different German regions.
In Schwerin, the Mecklenburgstraße is undergoing a major renovation to be converted into a bicycle street. The project is estimated to cost approximately 3.3 million euros, more than double the initial 2023 estimate. Construction is expected to last until March 2029, with certain sections facing full closures for up to 63 weeks and the permanent removal of numerous parking spaces.
In the Aachen area, several construction phases are shifting. A previous section involving Triebelstraße, Neumarkt, and Viktoriaallee is being reopened to traffic. New work will move to the section between Viktoriaallee and the Drimborn/Schenkendorfstraße intersection, with an expected completion date in February 2027. Additionally, a bridge over Rollefbach in Münsterstraße is being replaced due to structural damage and weight restrictions; this work is expected to conclude by December 2026 and will require a full road closure.
