Infrastructure projects announced for Mallorca water and Ciutadella facilities

The Balearic Government, through the Balearic Water and Environmental Quality Agency (ABAQUA), is advancing a nearly 44 million euro project to optimize water usage from Sa Costera to strengthen the supply in Mallorca. The initiative aims to modernize infrastructure connecting the Escorca spring to the s’Estremera aquifer in Bunyola, addressing deficiencies in the existing network.

Key components include a new filtration plant in Sóller capable of treating 3,000 cubic meters per hour, a 20,000 cubic meter regulatory reservoir in s’Estremera, new wells, and pumping stations. This project is designed to prevent water loss during heavy rain due to turbidity and to reinforce supplies for Palma, Calvià, and Sóller during droughts.

In Ciutadella, the City Council has begun preparations for a new tender regarding the Tita Llorens municipal indoor pool, fitness room, and aquatic activities. The council has commissioned 3 POC Consulting SL to draft the economic feasibility study and technical specifications. The goal is to ensure a seamless transition to a new concessionaire by November 1, 2027, maintaining the current indirect management model.
