Infrastructure projects approved for Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada
The Indian government has approved several major infrastructure projects in Andhra Pradesh to enhance logistics and urban mobility. At Visakhapatnam Port, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has sanctioned a ₹334.89-crore internal flyover. This 3.584-km elevated corridor is designed to separate road and rail traffic, specifically targeting delays caused by nine major railway level crossings that currently experience approximately 18 gate closures daily.
In addition to port improvements, the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has forwarded Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for metro rail projects in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada for financial appraisal. The proposed metro network covers 84.63 km across both cities with an estimated investment of ₹21,616 crore. These projects are intended to be executed under a Joint Venture model, with the central and state governments each contributing 20 percent of the cost, while the remaining 60 percent is expected to be sourced through loans from financial institutions.
