Infrastructure projects begin to remove bridge obstructions in drainage canals
Local authorities in Villa Cañás and the province of Buenos Aires have initiated the removal of old bridge structures to improve water drainage and prevent flooding.
In Villa Cañás, the municipality used heavy machinery provided by the Santa Fe government to remove a collapsed bridge from a primary drainage canal. This preventive measure aims to improve water flow and clear obstacles to manage potential heavy rainfall. The operation is part of a broader maintenance program involving canal cleaning and pipe installation to enhance local hydraulic infrastructure.
In the province of Buenos Aires, demolition has begun on a 120-year-old English railway bridge located on the Maldonado Canal. Officials, including Minister of Infrastructure Gabriel Katopodis and Mayor Federico Susbielles, noted that the structure acted as a critical obstruction during a major flood in March 2025. The removal is a key step in a project to triple the canal's size and expand it by six kilometers. A new, permanent railway bridge will be constructed following the demolition, funded by the provincial government.
