Infrastructure projects cause lane closures on I-89 and Pell Bridge
Multiple infrastructure projects are causing significant traffic disruptions in the United States.
In Vermont and New Hampshire, the northbound ramp from Interstate 89 to Interstate 91 will close this Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for paving. This work is part of a $43 million project to rebuild aging bridges over the Connecticut River and alleviate congestion. The project, which began in 2020, is now expected to reach completion in November.
In Rhode Island, the Newport Pell Bridge will undergo lane reductions starting Monday, October 26. Both directions will be reduced to a single lane to facilitate girder bearing replacement work at Pier 10E. Westbound closures begin at 7 a.m. Monday, followed by eastbound closures at 9 a.m., with both directions expected to reopen by 3 a.m. Tuesday, October 27. The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority has advised motorists to allow extra travel time.
