Infrastructure projects face delays and modular solutions in Chile

In Valdivia, the construction of the new Niebla Family Health Center (Cesfam) is at risk of losing funding if it does not receive necessary approvals before 2028. The Coast Development Council, led by Laura Gómez, reported that the project is currently in the design phase and awaiting a satisfactory recommendation from the Ministry of Social Development. A primary obstacle is that the designated land is currently occupied by the Juan Boschy School preschool and the Pescadores de Sueños kindergarten.

The current health center is significantly over capacity, serving more than 12,000 people despite being designed for only 5,000. The Council plans to coordinate with local organizations and notify the Municipality of Valdivia, the Local Public Education Service (SLEP), and the Presidential Delegation to expedite management.

In Calama, authorities have presented a proposal for modular infrastructure to support the Valentín Letelier School. This temporary solution aims to restore the Full School Day (Jornada Escolar Completa) for students. The project, presented by SLEP Licancabur and regional education officials, involves using a site on Inés de Suárez Street. While the modular plan is still under study, officials intend to advance the temporary infrastructure and the permanent school project in parallel.
