Infrastructure projects face delays and oversight in Peru and Chile

In Juliaca, merchants at the Las Mercedes market are expressing concern over delays in road improvement works surrounding the area. Although the project was intended to begin in July following an initial April commitment, the delay has caused traffic congestion and disrupted commercial activities. Local leaders fear that the 90-day construction period may not be completed before the rainy season, which could turn the site into mud and further hinder business operations.

In Concepción, the deadline for the remodeling of Plaza Perú has been extended to September 12 following a 45-day extension request. This delay follows a report from the Comptroller General of the Republic, which identified several construction flaws, including oxidized steel in planters and cracks in the concrete. Mayor Héctor Muñoz has announced an administrative inquiry to determine responsibility for these deficiencies, while the municipality works to address the issues identified by the oversight body.
