Infrastructure projects face delays in Guayaquil and Montilla
Infrastructure projects in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and Montilla, Spain, are facing significant delays due to labor shortages and unforeseen technical issues.
In Guayaquil, construction on Rodolfo Baquerizo Nazur Avenue has exceeded its five-month deadline, entering its sixth month. The project, which involves the section between José María Egas and Agustín Freire avenues, was planned in two stages. Delays have been attributed to a lack of workers and the need to replace old piping. Local merchants report a sales decline of up to 20%, and bus lines 64 and 85 have been forced to reroute, complicating local traffic.
In Montilla, the redevelopment of San José Street is five months behind schedule. The project, involving an investment of approximately 198,042 euros, aims to upgrade sanitation and water supply networks to prevent sinkholes and structural damage to homes. Residents have expressed frustration over the slow progress, noting that work often relies on only two operators, and have criticized the installation of bollards that restrict local parking.
