Infrastructure projects in Sweden and Finland cause transport disruptions

Major infrastructure projects in Sweden and Finland are set to cause significant transportation disruptions. In Sweden, extensive railway work on the Dalabanan line between Avesta Krylbo and Sala will begin on August 10 and continue through October 4. The project involves replacing tracks, ballast, poles, and contact lines to create a more reliable railway. During this period, SJ passenger trains will be rerouted via Västerås or Gävle, requiring passengers to change trains in Stockholm to reach destinations like Uppsala or Arlanda.

In Finland, the Brändö municipality will undergo roadwork to reinforce the Torsholma roadbank starting September 1, 2026. Due to significant ground settling exceeding 100 centimeters and the risk of landslides, the road will be fully closed from September 14 to the end of the year. This construction will also impact ferry services, shifting operations from the Lilla Hummelholm ferry terminal to the Norrviken terminal and adjusting schedules for several local lines.
