Infrastructure projects launch new bridges in Maimón and Canal Maldonado
New bridge infrastructure has been inaugurated in Maimón and the Canal Maldonado area to improve regional connectivity.
In Maimón, President Luis Abinader inaugurated a bridge over the La Leonora River, addressing a community demand that had persisted for 20 to 30 years. The project aims to prevent the isolation of the Buenos Aires and Puerto Rico sectors during periods of high river flow. The infrastructure includes over 300 linear meters of gabion walls for protection and a 330-meter linear park featuring solar lighting, benches, and tables. Additionally, officials noted ongoing efforts to stabilize the local electrical substation and address hospital staffing.
In another development, a temporary metal bridge has been opened over the Canal Maldonado on Líbano Street. This structure, built with weather-resistant Corten steel, allows for vehicular and pedestrian transit near Don Bosco Avenue while permanent hydraulic reconstruction continues. The 24-meter-long bridge is designed to support motorcycles, cars, and passenger transport, but is restricted from heavy trucks. Once the permanent concrete bridge is completed, this temporary structure will be dismantled for reuse elsewhere.
