Infrastructure projects trigger road closures in Kenya and the UK
The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced several road closures to facilitate construction. The Mlolongo-Kamulu (Quarry Road) will be closed from October 1 to December 1, 2026. Light and medium vehicles are advised to use Syokimau-Katani and Syokimau-Parliament Roads, while heavy commercial vehicles should use Tuffoam Road. Additionally, the closure of Eldoret Road in Nairobi has been extended until December 30, 2026, due to logistical challenges involving the construction of a bridge across the Nairobi River.
In the United Kingdom, National Highways has confirmed overnight closures on the M6 at the Thelwall Viaduct through October 11. These closures, occurring between 10pm and 5am, are part of a long-term maintenance scheme to replace bridge joints. Following these initial works, a 24/7 contraflow system will be implemented starting October 12, 2026, which will remain in place until the 2027/28 winter season, with speed limits reduced to 40mph.
