Dominican Republic infrastructure and transport updates

The Dominican government has awarded the contract for a new bascule bridge over the Ozama River. The project, estimated at 4.5 billion pesos, will be executed by the Consorcio Constructora Río Ozama over 24 months. The new structure, located 80 meters south of the current floating bridge, will feature a mobile arm system similar to those in Miami to reduce traffic interruptions from hours to approximately 15 minutes.

In Santo Domingo Norte, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) has initiated maintenance on the Gregorio Luperón (La Barquita) bridge. This second phase involves reinforcing the central section, leading to significant traffic restrictions: heavy vehicles are suspended indefinitely, and light vehicles face nighttime closures on weekdays and total closures on weekends. Alternative routes have been established via Avenida Charles de Gaulle and Avenida Hermanas Mirabal.

Additionally, the Metropolitan Bus Service Operator (OMSA) has launched an integrated transport system for the EBus Cultural in the Colonial City. Passengers can now use a single electronic payment of RD$35 via SDgo cards, credit, or debit cards. This system allows for transfers between OMSA electric buses, the Santo Domingo Metro, and the Teleférico within a 90-minute window.
