Infrastructure projects underway for pedestrian and cycling routes in Catalonia

The Spanish Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has awarded a 3 million euro contract to construct a pedestrian and cyclist footbridge over the A-2 highway. Located at kilometer 487, the infrastructure will connect Mollerussa and Palau d’Anglesola, improving road safety and facilitating movement between the two municipalities without requiring users to share space with vehicle traffic.

The project features a clearance height of over 2.20 meters and specific slope requirements to ensure accessibility. This development addresses a demand from local authorities that has persisted for over three years, particularly to protect commuters and cyclists from heavy truck traffic in the economically active area.

Separately, the Catalan Department of Territory expects the bicycle lane connecting Reus and Cambrils to be completed in the first half of 2027. The project, which has an updated cost of 4.7 million euros, includes the construction of footbridges over the AP-7 and railway lines. Delays in the original timeline were attributed to necessary project modifications and the relocation of Endesa electrical lines.
