Infrastructure repairs cause road closures and delays in Germany and Austria
Infrastructure projects in Germany and Austria are facing delays or implementing significant closures due to necessary repairs.
In Germany, the Landesbetrieb Straßenbau und Verkehr Schleswig-Holstein (LBV. SH) announced that the reopening of the B 75 federal highway between Travereithof and Lübeck has been delayed by approximately one week. The new expected release date is October 24, 2026. The delay is attributed to unpredictable soil conditions in the sixth construction phase that were not detectable during preliminary investigations, necessitating more extensive work on side areas and drainage systems. The project, costing approximately 4.2 million euros, requires a full road closure for safety and quality reasons.
In Austria, the state of Carinthia is investing approximately 380,000 euros to repair the L90 road due to significant damage including cracks and ruts. The project is divided into two sections. The first 1.5-kilometer stretch near Knappenberg will require a full closure for about ten days to apply a new asphalt layer. The second 300-meter section near Hüttenberg will involve milling and repaving, during which traffic will be managed via a single-lane diversion. Completion is expected by the end of November.
