Infrastructure safety concerns trigger road closures in Italy

Authorities in Italy have implemented emergency road closures in two different regions due to infrastructure and geological safety concerns.

In Torricella Sicura, the SP 48 provincial road in Bosco Martese has been closed to both vehicles and pedestrians. The closure follows a landslide in the Fornaci area. While firefighters were initially called to address a leaning tree, they discovered that a water pipe leak had caused soil instability and a slope collapse. Technical assessments are ongoing to determine when the road can safely reopen.

In Borore, the Province of Nuoro has closed a section of the SP 66 provincial road, specifically the overpass spanning the Cagliari-Golfo Aranci railway line. The closure was prompted by reports from Rete Ferroviaria Italiana regarding structural issues, including concrete detachment from beam curbs and damaged brickwork. Additionally, the side barriers were deemed insufficient for safety standards. Alternative routes via the SP 33 have been established for motorists.
