Infrastructure South Africa identifies R395 billion in upcoming projects
Infrastructure South Africa (ISA) has released the third edition of its Construction Book, an inventory detailing 110 infrastructure projects with a combined estimated value of R395 billion. The publication serves as a market-signalling tool to provide contractors, financiers, and suppliers with visibility into the public-sector pipeline expected to move toward procurement and construction over the next 12 to 18 months.
The projects span six sectors, with municipal infrastructure representing the largest portion at approximately R112 billion across metros such as Johannesburg, Cape Town, eThekwini, and Polokwane. The water and sanitation sector includes 18 projects valued at R35 billion, featuring developments like the Beitbridge Musina Water Transfer Scheme and a proposed desalination plant in Cape Town. Additionally, the report highlights R28 billion in digital infrastructure projects, including the SAeX East Subsea Fibre-Optic Cable.
At the launch of the book during the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa, President Cyril Ramaphosa noted that reforms aimed at reducing fragmentation and improving project preparation are helping to accelerate the implementation of Strategic Integrated Projects (SIPs).
