Infrastructure theft reported in Salto and Bogotá

In Salto, Uruguay, residents are reporting a systemic problem with the theft of copper cables. A resident in the Luján neighborhood provided audiovisual evidence showing how criminals target electrical cables for their copper content rather than high-value tools or machinery. These thefts frequently disrupt essential services, such as electricity and water, and the damage often recurs shortly after repairs are made.

In Bogotá, Colombia, the theft of floor plates from pedestrian bridges has become a recurring issue. Following a recent incident at the SENA station bridge on the NQS, the Instituto de Desarrollo Urbano (IDU) performed immediate repairs. To prevent future vandalism, the IDU announced plans to replace the current flooring with polypropylene sheets, a more secure material, starting in early October.
