Infrastructure updates: Bridge construction in Ecuador and lighting delays in Spain

Construction is progressing on a new viaduct over the Malacatos River in the Loja province of Ecuador. The project, managed by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, has an estimated cost of approximately 627,000 dollars. Engineers report that work is proceeding without setbacks, with one foundation already poured. The new bridge features a 30-meter span, doubling the length of the previous structure that collapsed during the 2016 winter season. Completion is expected by mid-January 2027.

In Plasencia, Spain, ornamental lighting projects for three bridges—Nuevo, San Lázaro, and Trujillo—remain incomplete. Following an eight-month suspension and a rescission request by the contractor, IELO Proyectos e Instalaciones, the Plasencia City Council has approved a resolution regarding the second phase of the project. While the first phase of the lighting project was completed, significant portions of the second phase, funded by European Next Generation funds, were never installed due to potential impacts on historical elements.
