Infrastructure updates: Sewage system renovation in Ecuador and asphalt damage in Peru

In Ecuador, EPAPAP has begun renovating the sanitary sewage system on Vicente Rocafuerte Street, between Simón Bolívar and Belisario Quevedo. The project replaces obsolete asbestos cement pipes with 250 mm corrugated PVC-D pipes to prevent leaks and environmental contamination. The initiative involves a collaborative model where local residents provide PVC piping for domestic connections while EPAPAP supplies additional materials from its warehouses.

In Peru, the Empresa Prestadora de Servicios de Saneamiento (EPS) reported that recent rainfall caused the deterioration of newly applied asphalt on Grau Avenue following sewage network repairs. According to resident engineer Arturo Ávalos, the use of cold asphalt required a curing period that was interrupted by rain, which washed away the asphalt emulsion. Heavy vehicle traffic further contributed to cracks and surface displacement. EPS plans to remove the damaged material and perform a new resurfacing near the Rosa Ara stop once weather conditions improve.
