Infrastructure upgrades planned for Mala Kapela and Vrmac tunnels
Major infrastructure upgrades are planned for key tunnels in Croatia and Montenegro to improve safety and technical standards.
Hrvatske autoceste (HAC) has launched a tender for the replacement of 208 worn-out doors within both tubes of the Mala Kapela tunnel on the A1 motorway. The project, valued at approximately 2.4 million euros, is scheduled to begin in November and is expected to last 260 days. The Mala Kapela tunnel is a critical component of the Croatian highway network, spanning nearly 5.8 kilometers.
In Montenegro, the Vrmac tunnel, which connects Kotor to the Adriatic highway and Tivat, is moving toward reconstruction. The Environmental Protection Agency has determined that a formal environmental impact assessment is not required for the project. The planned works include constructing a missing section of the evacuation tunnel, renewing the roadway, addressing drainage issues, and replacing outdated electrical and mechanical equipment, such as ventilation and fire alarm systems.
