Infrastructure works and bridge inspections cause regional road closures
Infrastructure projects and safety inspections are causing traffic disruptions in Colombia and Guatemala.
In Colombia, partial night closures are scheduled in the Alto Palmas sector from August 24 to August 27, 2026. These closures, occurring between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., are necessary for the Alto de Las Palmas Interchange project. The work involves replacing the current roundabout to improve mobility for a corridor that handles over 30,000 vehicles daily. Drivers traveling from Medellín toward El Retiro or the José María Córdova Airport are advised to use detours via the descent lane near Mercajuste.
In Guatemala, the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure, and Housing (CIV) is conducting technical evaluations at the Enrique Tejada Wyld Bridge in Villa Nueva. The inspection follows the detection of a pavement deflection or pothole. Authorities have implemented a partial closure of approximately 800 meters in the direction of Villa Nueva to facilitate structural reviews and ensure road safety. The bridge serves as a strategic alternative route for commuters between the capital and the southern coast.
