Brazil infrastructure and weather cause widespread traffic disruptions
Various regions in Brazil are experiencing significant traffic disruptions due to severe weather and ongoing infrastructure projects.
In the state of Paraná, heavy storms in the Vale do Ivaí region caused flooding, fallen trees, and damage to commercial properties. Notable incidents include a tree falling on a moving vehicle on the PR-466 and flooding in Jandaia do Sul. Additionally, the Department of Roads (DER-PR) has scheduled several road closures and rock blasting operations on highways such as the PRC-466 and PR-445. In Curitiba, the Avenida Sete de Setembro is facing blockages to facilitate BRT Leste/Oeste construction works.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, maintenance and duplication works on the BR-163 are causing diversions and stop-and-go traffic across six municipalities. Meanwhile, in the interior of São Paulo, heavy rains and wind gusts have caused damage to trees and power poles, with weather forecasts predicting continued instability and potential hail in the region.
