Infrastructure works underway on bridges in Piešťany and Banská Bystrica
Infrastructure projects are underway in two Slovak cities involving significant structural assessments and demolitions.
In Piešťany, divers are inspecting the pillars of the Kolonádový most beneath the Váh river. The inspection revealed that the condition of the first pillar is worse than initially anticipated. Workers must first remove debris and sediment, including unreinforced concrete blocks and large wooden driftwood, before repairs can proceed. During the cleaning process, divers discovered historical wooden elements believed to be remains of the original bridge construction.
In Banská Bystrica, demolition has begun on a bridge connecting Radvaň and Fončorda. Following a diagnostic assessment, it was determined that the central pillar had degraded more significantly than expected due to weather and stray electrical currents from traction lines. Consequently, the decision was made to remove the existing structure and build a new one rather than attempting extensive repairs. Demolition is expected to conclude by the second week of October, after which construction of the new base layer will begin.
