ING Accelerates End of Support for Older Smartphones
ING announced that its mobile banking app will now require at least iOS 16 on Apple devices and Android 11 on Android devices, moving the support deadline forward from the originally planned 15 September 2026 to immediate effect. The change affects smartphones and tablets running older operating systems such as Android 9/10 and iOS versions below 16, which will lose access to the app after the update. ING cited heightened security requirements, noting that older systems no longer receive full security patches, increasing the risk of vulnerabilities.
Customers with unsupported devices must either upgrade to a newer device that can run the required OS versions or switch to the photoTAN generator for banking transactions. The bank recommends using iOS 17 or Android 14 for the longest support, though iOS 16 and Android 11 meet the minimum criteria.
