ING to open bank branches on Saba and St. Eustatius

ING has announced it will open physical bank branches on the Caribbean Netherlands islands of Saba and St. Eustatius in late November 2026. The St. Eustatius office is scheduled to open on November 24, followed by the Saba branch on November 26.

The move follows years of limited banking access for residents and businesses on the islands. While ABN Amro provides internet banking and Rabobank accepts certain customers, many residents have had to rely on foreign banks. ING stated it has met all legal and regulatory requirements to resume services, despite the islands being outside the European Economic Area and using US dollars.

Initially, customers will be able to open current accounts, apply for debit cards, and utilize digital banking. Cash services will be supported through new ATMs installed by De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB). The expansion comes ahead of the planned closure of the RBC physical branch on Saba in January 2027. Local officials, including Saba Commissioner of Finance Bruce Zagers, welcomed the news as a significant step for the local economy, though discussions continue regarding cash availability and deposit services.
