Ingeniero Jacobacci marks 110 years with mining and paleontological milestones

The town of Ingeniero Jacobacci in Río Negro is celebrating its 110th anniversary, marked by significant infrastructure development and historical milestones. The provincial government is supporting the community through investments in housing, education, health, and tourism services.

A major driver of local economic development is the mining sector, specifically the Calcatreu project. Recent shipments of gold and silver doré from Calcatreu, totaling 996 equivalent ounces of gold, represent a turning point for the region's economy and employment prospects. The provincial government aims to use this momentum to support approximately 60 other mining projects.

In addition to modern development, the region holds immense paleontological importance. The Jorge H. Gerhold Anthropological and Historical Museum preserves fossils from the Upper Cretaceous period, dating back 70 to 80 million years. Recent research has documented 467 specimens, including 311 hadrosaurids, suggesting the area may have served as a prehistoric breeding ground.
