Inglewood breaks ground on $287.5M transit connector project

City and state leaders in Inglewood have officially broken ground on the Inglewood Transit Connector (ITC), a $287.5 million project designed to link the city’s stadium district with the Metro K Line.

Due to funding constraints that prevented the immediate construction of a full automated people mover ahead of the 2028 Olympics, the project has been scaled back to an initial phase. This phase will focus on shuttle bus services, three mobility hubs, a 1,000-space parking garage, a pedestrian bridge over Florence Avenue, and streetscape improvements including new sidewalks and lighting on Market Street, Manchester, and Queen.

Mayor James Butts and Assemblymember Tina McKinnor stated the project aims to revitalize the historic Market Street business corridor by making transit a primary option for visitors. However, some local business owners have expressed skepticism, noting that recent city use of eminent domain to clear space for the project has already displaced existing shops and questioning whether the new system will benefit resident-focused businesses.
